Component-Based Systems : A Formal Approach

The evolution from object-oriented systems to component-oriented systems is the state of the art. We propose a formal approach to deene what component is and how it is used. Our aim is to provide formal notations and a set of theories for component-based systems. This paper presents an approach to a formal model for Component-Based Systems (CBSs) based on comparative studies of two standard component models, namely Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM) and Sun's JavaBeans. We formalized some of the important aspects of components and their use, based on the uniication of these aspects found in COM and JavaBeans.
